Master Data Import Template
The Master Data Import Template is used to import parts, features, manufacturing limits, or production assignments to Enact. Once it is populated with the desired data, follow the Importing Master Data procedure to import the data.
This template, which is an Excel file, has four worksheets:
-
Parts
-
Features
-
Manufacturing Limits
-
Production Assignment
Parts
The import template is exclusively for creating parts and does not support their modification or deletion. When importing master data, parts are created in the default language only, without support for adding, modifying, or deleting language labels. The Name field is mandatory when creating a part. Records in the template with names that match existing names in Enact are not imported, and are listed in the failed report. Master Data Import does not currently support part revisions. Language label creation is not available. You can link tag groups and tag values to parts through the import process. If you input a tag group and tag value that do not exist in Enact, they will be created and associated with the part. If part creation fails, associated items created in Enact (provided they didn't exist earlier) will not be reverted. If a tag group exists but the tag value doesn't, the tag value will be created, associated with the tag group, and linked to the primary item created (in this case, parts).
This template contains one row and four columns for each new part.
The columns are:
-
Name: Enter a name for the new part. This is required field.
Limit the value in the Name field to 50 characters.
-
Description: Enter a description for the new part. This is an optional field.
Limit the value in the Description field to 500 characters.
-
Tag Group: Enter a tag group for the new part. This is an optional field.
Limit the value in the Tag Group field to 50 characters.
-
Tag Value: Enter a tag value for the new part. This is an optional field.
Limit the value in the Tag Value field to 50 characters.
Feature
The import template facilitates the creation of features and does not support modification or deletion of items. When importing master data through the sheet, features data is created and inserted into Enact in the default language. Language label addition, modification, or deletion is not supported. Feature Name and Type are mandatory fields for creating features, and additional validations depend on the selected feature type:
-
For Feature Type Variable, no additional required fields.
-
For Feature Type Defect and Defective, the Code Group is required.
-
For Feature Type Checklist, the Response Group is required. Response Type and Response Choice are required if Response Group doesn't exist in Enact.
-
Feature Type Verification can be created but requires user-defined logic in Enact to function.
If you input a tag group and tag value that do not exist in Enact, they will be created and associated with the feature. If a tag group exists but the tag value doesn't, the tag value will be created, associated with the tag group, and linked to the feature created. If feature creation fails, associated items are created, provided they didn't exist earlier in Enact.
It must be noted that if associated data such as code groups, response groups, response types, and response choices are not present in Enact and are required for a particular type of feature, they will be created in Enact.
This template contains one row and twelve columns for each new feature.
The columns are:
-
Name: Enter a name for the new feature. This is required field.
Limit the value in the Name field to 50 characters.

Manufacturing Limits
The import template is exclusively for creating manufacturing limits and does not facilitate modification or deletion. When importing master data through the sheet, manufacturing limits data is created and inserted into Enact in the default language. Language label addition, modification, or deletion is not supported. Keep in mind when using the import template to create manufacturing limits:
-
Parts and Feature are mandatory fields for creating manufacturing limits.
-
Processes must exist in Enact prior to import since process creation is not supported.
-
Entries in the Process field that do not exist will cause validation failure and no manufacturing limits will be created.
-
Multiple processes with the same name will also cause validation failure.
-
Numeric values must be used when settings limits, text values will cause the process to fail.
-
Only 'Yes' or 'No' values should be entered in the Event column.
The columns are:
- Part: Enter the part name for the new manufacturing limit. This is required field.
Limit the value in the Part field to 50 characters.
-
Revision: Enter a revision value for the new manufacturing limit. This is an optional field but must exist in Enact if used.
Limit the value in the Revision field to 50 characters.
-
Feature: Enter a feature value for the new manufacturing limit. This is a required field.
Limit the value in the Feature field to 50 characters.
-
Process: Enter a Process value for the new manufacturing limit. This is an optional field but must exist in Enact if used.
Limit the value in the Process field to 50 characters.
-
Unit: Enter a Process value for the new manufacturing limit. This is an optional field.
Limit the value in the Unit field to 50 characters.
Once you have filled out the columns listed above, you are free to complete the Specification Limits entries as well as the Special Limits section of the template. Entries for using the MAV and T1T2 methods are also available.
-
In MAV and T1T2, if the unit provided in their respective columns do not exist, we will create the unit as explained in one of the points above.
-
For Max % scenarios in MAV and T1T2, the allowed value will be restricted to 3 numeric characters.
-
For evaluation of the limits entered by the user, the following order will be followed:
-
Spec Limit: LRL < LSL < LWL < Target < UWL < USL < URL
-
MAV Method: MAV Lower < LSC < MAV Upper
-
T1 T2 Method: T2 Lower < T1 Lower < LSC < T1 Upper < T2 Upper
-
Production Assignment
The Production Assignment worksheet is for creating new production assignments in Enact, not modifying or deleting existing production assignments. New production assignments are created in the default language. Each row in the worksheet is for a a different production assignment. The worksheet columns are:
-
Process Name: This column is required. It details the process for which the production assignment is to be created. The process must already exist in Enact.
-
Part Name: This column is required. It details the part for which the production assignment is to be created. The part must already exist in Enact.
-
Lot Number: This column is optional. It details the lot for which the production assignment is to be created, if the production assignment is lot-specific. The lot must already exist in Enact, be linked to the part, and have a Lot Testing value of Released.
-
Start Date & Time: This column is required. It is the date and time the production assignment is to begin. The format for the date is: m/d/yyyy.
-
End Date & Time: This column is optional. It is the date and time the production assignment is to end. The format for the date and time is: m/d/yyyy h:mm:ss tt. (The last two characters, "tt", represent AM or PM.)
IMPORTANT: Uploading production assignments requires the Create permission within the Production Assignment set of permissions. As a courtesy, this permission is automatically granted to users who already have permissions to upload other master data. This eliminates the need for administrators to manually assign this permission to potentially many users. To prevent a user from being able to upload production assignments, revoke that user's Production Assignments > Create permission and Master Data permission. Note that this will prevent the user from uploading other master data as well as production assignments.
