Creating HTTP Reader
The HTTP Reader processes data transferred using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which would be useful when your ProFicient quality system running on one local area network (LAN) needs to transport data to a ProFicient quality system running on another LAN.
-
Example
After receiving the IDEF file from a ProFicient Measurement Data Reader, the HTTP Writer transfers the IDEF data to 127.0.0.99 (IP Address of the destination computer) through port 8099, where the HTTP Reader receives the data and then dispatches that data to a ProFicient Database Writer, which publishes the data to the destination database.
-
Operating Details
In a functional Routing Configuration, you must have both the origin (HTTP Writer) and the destination (HTTP Reader).
-
Multiplexing
Using the Identity setting (see below), you can reuse the same IP Address and Port. Consider the following scenario:
- Two workstations route data to the destination www.mycompany.com (IP Address 127.0.0.99), using port 8083.
- On Workstation 1, you configure an HTTP Writer with Identity set to WS1-MDI.
- On Workstation 2, you configure an HTTP Writer with Identity set to WS2-MDI.
- The network administrator adds the EIS application and EIS Reader port to the hardware and software firewalls exceptions on your destination computer.
- On the destination computer, you configure the first HTTP Writer with Identity set to WS1-MDI.
- On the destination computer, you configure the second HTTP Writer with Identity set to WS2-MDI.
When adding or modifying an HTTP Reader, the HTTP Reader dialog box opens.
-
To configure the HTTP Reader, do the following:
-
In the Source section, click the desired connection type, as follows:
-
HTTP. Click to receive using an unsecure connection, and then configure the following:
- Address. In the drop-down list, click the IP Address being targeted by the HTTP Writer.
-
Port. Type the port number used by the HTTP Writer (by default, type 8075).
Because most networks and operating systems use firewalls as a security precaution, you may need to add EIS and the required ports to the firewall exceptions on your destination computer. Please work with the local and remote network administrators for help with configuring the firewall, including identifying an acceptable IP address and port to use with EIS. For more information, please see System Requirements (ProFicient on Demand).
- Identity. Type the unique identity name used by the HTTP Writer (by default, type IDEF).
-
HTTPS. Click to receive using a secure connection, and then configure the following:
- SSL Address. Type the IP Address or URL being targeted by the HTTP Writer.
-
Port. Type the port number used by the HTTP Writer (by default, type 443).
-
- In the read-only URL data field, examine the fully qualified address using the Address, Port, and Identity.
-
In the Archive data field, click the checkbox, click the ellipsis button (...), browse to and click the folder where you will back up the processed files, and then click the OK button.
-
- Click the OK button.
