Licenses
There are three types of licenses in Enact: a workstation license, a user license, and a connection license. Each has its advantages. In order for an Enact user to log in to and use Enact, he or she must either be using or licensed workstation or be a licensed user.
The advantage of licensed workstations is they eliminate the need to individually license multiple Enact users, lowering customer costs. For example, say there is a workstation for monitoring a particular operation. By licensing that workstation, a day shift operator can use it, an afternoon shift operator can use it, and a night shift operator--all under a single license. Workstations on a shop floor are commonly licensed.
In contrast, it is sometimes appropriate to license individual users. Because of their job responsibilities, some users need to access Enact from multiple locations--their homes, a conference room, a manager's office, a prospect's site, etc.--and it may not be practical to license each device that will be used. Licensing a user enables him or her to access Enact using a device that isn't licensed.
Connection licenses are specialized and concern neither stations nor users. With the implementation of data sharing, daily aggregated records can be continuously shared from one Enact tenant to another Enact tenant. Connection licenses enable this sharing. They help external companies, such as vendors. Two connection licenses are needed for each connection: one at the supplier’s end and one at the receiver’s end. A connection license is removed when the connection is terminated or deleted.
